Cold Calling Competition

Students participating in the Fall 2022 CSS Cold Calling Competition will have a scheduled time to make one live cold call to someone acting as a potential buyer. The competition will take place from 4:00 - 7:00 PM PST on October 11th and October 12th.

First Place: 256GB Meta Quest 2 with accessories + Travel (flight and/or hotel up to $500)

Second Place: 256GB Meta Quest 2 with accessories

Third Place: 128GB Meta Quest 2

Logistics

You will schedule a 15-minute time slot with a sales coach to make your cold call. The cold call will be done by logging into a Zoom link with the camera off to simulate not being able to see your buyer. 

You will be in the Zoom waiting room and when your buyer is ready, your buyer will admit you into the Zoom room and will greet you by saying “hello” as if your buyer just answered your cold call. The role-play begins immediately. 

After the call ends, you may stay on the Zoom link to receive live feedback from the mock buyer. The session will be recorded in order for the judges to review the cold call and select the winners.

Winners will be announced at the CSS Summit on October 19th and highlighted on CSS social media accounts. The first-place winner's cold call will be shared at the Summit.

Scenario

Product

For this year’s competition, you are a Meta Quest SDR selling to the Head of Employee Communications & Experience at Asana. Meta is offering a corporate package to companies working in a remote working environment. Meta will create a virtual office for Oculus based on your actual office for you to host companywide meetings. The purpose of using Oculi for your team is to cut back on travel time while getting the same feel of working in the office together.

Buyer 

You are calling Catherine Avendaño, Head of Employee Communications & Experience at Asana. The goal of the call is to schedule a pricing-and-packing call between your AE at Meta and Catherine. Feel free to get creative, using any information you have learned about your product.

Scoring

In your mock cold call, you will be judged in the following areas:

  • Greeting and first impression
  • Articulate the reason for your call
  • Identify relevant facts and needs
  • Present a solution to a problem
  • Overcoming objections
  • Closing the call
 
Scheduling

Please schedule a 15-minute time slot for October 11, 2022, or October 12, 2022. Once you have selected a time, a confirmation with a zoom link will be sent to your email.
